39 Years, and More to Be Done
by Joseph DaBrow
Needless to say that as we end this year's pride month, much conversation has been had regarding the Pride Issue. In particular my issue introduction letter. I want to thank everyone who has expressed their views to me. We have received much input on both sides of the issue at hand and it has served as an eye opener for me. Please don't jump up claming any form of victory because there is none to be had in the variant expected. I have written more addressing this in a separate piece I hope everyone reads. But more so I hope everyone reads all of the articles we have presented. I hope these inspired view points will bring cause to more conversation regarding the work which lies ahead of us all in the quest of true equality for the entire community.
While I hope with every breath that all of you will read with an open mind and glean some new understanding, I am not a fool. I know there is a segment that will not be able to budge from their positions or opinions no matter how short sighted or closed minded they may be. And the true pity here is that this very stubbornness is exactly what we fight against on all fronts. The refusal of people to understand anything they can't, or in my opinion, don't want to understand. Neither I nor Metroline have any agenda other than furthering the cause of the community towards equality. We are not phobic about anything or anyone no matter how many self-appointed demagogues claim otherwise. But I will address that further in my article. My statement was meant to give respect and remembrance to ALL members of the community that have given so much towards what we enjoy today.
So I hope you will enjoy and maybe even get some fresh insight from this issue, which coincides with the 39th anniversary of Stonewall. I thank all of you with open minds for taking the time to read the informative views we have put together for you.
